The Mercer Island and other regional fire departments will be participating in training drills in July and August.
The rescue drills, which will be done by the Island, Bellevue, Redmond and Kirkland departments, will focus on confined space and rope rescue scenarios and involve live patients.
The drills will take place at the Mercer Island boat launch and in the overhead structure of the East Channel Bridge from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on July 19, 22, 23, 26 and Aug. 15, 16, 19.
While it may appear to the public that actual reduces are taking place, there will be sings posted describing the training situation.
