For Mercer Island High School graduate Mikaela Kahn, becoming a cast member on Fox’s breakout hit show “Glee” would be a dream come true. Many people dream of something like this and luckily for Kahn there’s a chance it could happen.
Kahn is one of 10 Seattle area finalists in the nationwide try-outs for a chance to have their audition tape sent to the “Glee” casting director in Los Angeles, currently looking to fill several new roles for next season.
Out of the top 10 in Seattle, each finalist wrote and performed a song about why they want to be on “Glee” and the public gets to vote on which they think is best.
The contest, put on locally by Q13-FOX, runs for the next four days, will close voting later this week and the winner will be announced on Monday, April 19. The winner is based on popular vote as well as talent and earns a “gold star pass” to have their audition to be seen by the show’s casting director.
Kahn heard about the contest from a friend, who knew she loved the show and would be a perfect addition to it. Kahn graduated from MIHS in 2008 and is currently a sophomore at the University of North Texas majoring in vocal performance and jazz studies at the school’s nationally-ranked School of Music.
The Islander has been performing and recording since she was a kid, said her mother Cathy Kahn. Mikaela was a long time member of Mercer Island’s show choir, Island Sound, and currently has her debut album, available on iTunes at at Island Books.
