Mercer Island resident sings for top spot on NBC reality show

Nick Moore sings with an a cappella group "Groove for Thought on NBC's "The Sing-off."

Mercer Island resident Nick Moore, is performing as a member in a singing group that has made it to the third round of a network-televised reality show talent competition.

The NBC show, “The Sing-Off” features 10 of the top American a cappella groups, is hosted by Nick Lachey, and includes judges Ben Folds (Ben Folds Five), Shawn Stockman (Boyz II Men) and Nicole Scherzinger (The Pussycat Dolls).

Moore, is a member of the a cappella group, “Groove for Thought,” that made it to the third round last Thursday night.

They will continue on to the fourth round, to air Dec. 13. They will compete against several other a cappella groups for a Sony Music recording contract and $100,000.

Groove for Thought (www.grooveforthought.com) started in 1998, performs primarily jazz and R&B and has toured all over the world.

Moore, a Seattle native is active as an arranger/composer and keyboard performer. He is equally at home in jazz, pop, and contemporary musical styles.

Moore has appeared with such diverse artists as Diane Schuur, Roger Whitaker, Joe Walsh, Michael Tomlinson and in the pit for touring casts of Broadway shows such as “City of Angels” and “Grease” (with Rosie O’Donnell). He held the keyboard chair in the ”Almost Live Band” for it’s seven season run on KING TV. Nick also enjoys his involvement the world of choral music, accompanying and coaching for many northwest ensembles.

The Islander has written and produced music for clients such as Boeing, Holland-America and Microsoft. He has recently worked on a variety of projects including arranging and producing for CD releases by Wendy Plaster, Deb Sardi and Richard Warner as well as playing on “Music by Gershwin” and “King of Cool” for Cabaret Productions.

He has also worked on film scores including the Elmer Bernstein score for “Keeping the Faith” and Disney’s “Brave Little Toaster” animated feature. One of Moore’s more notable credits is playing piano on the Grammy award winning “Acoustic Garden” CD release by Tingstad and Rumbel.
