Mercer Island High School seniors Theresa Czech and Jacob Evans were the Rotary Club’s Islanders of the Month for February.
Engaging in and giving back to her community is important for Czech.
Czech volunteers regularly through at her church, Evergreen Covenent, and in the past at through the high school’s Key Club and at Mercer Island Youth and Family Services. She has also been involved in several school plays at Mercer Island High School as an actor, stage manager and technician. Her passion for theatre led to her role as drama club president this year.
Overall, Czech is an active student, working as a lifeguard and swim coach at Mercerwood Shore Club, a ski instructor at Summer Ski School and as a nursery caregiver at Evergreen Covenant Church.
Evans is an AP and National Merit Commended Scholar who balances a busy academic schedule with music and sports.
In addition to learning about calculus, physics and Chinese at school, he also completed a three-week residential engineering program at Stanford last summer and is training to be a private pilot.
Evans recently wrapped up his fourth year playing Mercer Island basketball, and previously worked as a coach for the Little Dribblers youth basketball program. He has also worked as a soccer referee for multiple organizations and a sports camp counselor.
