Mercer Island Rotary students of November

The Rotary Club has named Mercer Island High School students Alyson Abe and Will Goodwin as the Islanders of November.

The Rotary Club has named Mercer Island High School students Alyson Abe and Will Goodwin as the Islanders of November.

Abe is the president of the National Honor Society at MIHS, where she is also a BRIDGES leader and co-president of the Kids Corps Tutoring Club and the Wordage Writing Club. She is also involved with Invisible Children Schools for Schools, Natural Helpers, the Green Team, Educ-Aid Tutoring Club and the Senior Service Club. She has volunteered as the committee chair for the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life and as a board member of Serving Youth on the Eastside, in addition to helping with Volunteer Outreach in Communities Everywhere (VOICE). Abe is the daughter of Rick and Linda Abe, and she intends to pursue biological or biomedical studies at a four-year university before starting a career in the medical field.

Goodwin, the student body president, is the secretary of the Senior Service Club, a National Honor Society member and a BRIDGES leader at MIHS. He also swims with the varsity swim team. During the political campaigns, he worked as the deputy campaign manager for Steve Litzow in the state Senate race. The son of Pat and Carolyn Goodwin, he has also volunteered for the Boys and Girls Club, and is involved with the MIYFS Communities That Care Coalition as a member and youth committee leader.
