In a close non-league match, the Mercer Island baseball team lost to Mountlake Terrace on Tuesday evening.
The Islanders are now 2-1 in the season, after beating Garfield and Newport in the first weeks of the season.
Against the Hawks on Tuesday, March 22 the Islanders connected to score one run in the first, but Mountlake Terrace kept it even with a run of their own.
The second finished with no additional runs before Mercer Island added another in the third, for a 2-1 lead. But a three run bottom of the third for the Hawks took the score to 4-1 and Mercer Island was never able to gain the upper hand in the match after the Hawks picked up another run in the fifth.
The Islanders had three hits during the match, with one error, while Mountlake Terrace had six hits and one error.
Mercer Island senior Jordan Richartz was 2-3, with 2 RBI, a double and a home run during the game.
The team will host Franklin, Thursday, March 24 at Island Crest Park at 6 p.m. and will travel to Bothell on Saturday for a noon match.
