The Mercer Island Select U12 soccer team, known as the MI Fierce, earned a perfect record during the Crossfire Select Cup tournament. The team, playing in the U12 silver division, beat three teams on their way to the elimination round.
They won the semifinal game over a team from Seattle, before facing off against another Crossfire team, the champs from the year before.
During the title game the two teams battled it out for a 0-0 tie at the end of regulation time. The teams went into two five minute overtime periods, both ending without a winner to the game. Next up was penalty kicks, which lasted for seven rounds until Mercer Island keeper Maeve Akins saved a shot to give the team a 4-3 edge to win the game 1-0.
The team includes: head coach Andrea Anderson, Maeve Akins, Ellie Daugherty, Elakshi Shah, Erin Yilmaz, Isabelle Knowles, Ava Blanchette, Anna Ritcey and Assistant Coach Erin Anderson, Makenna Stevenson, Eliza Jacobson, Olivia Morris, Jessica Stenberg, Kendra Watson, Fiona McCann, Amelia Childs and Claire Underwood.
