Islander baseball extends KingCo winning streak

Mercer Island baseball earned its fourth-consecutive KingCo win Monday, April 14, beating Liberty 1-0 at Liberty High School. The Islanders improved to 4-1 in KingCo and 6-4 overall. Harrison Goonewardene earned the win from the mound for Mercer Island, allowing no runs and five hits while striking out five. The Islanders will take on Mount Si at 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 16 at Island Crest Park.

Fastpitch falls to Mount Si

Islander fastpitch traveled to Mount Si to take on KingCo’s second-place Wildcats Monday. The Wildcats took an early lead with three runs in the first inning and kept the offense going, beating Mercer Island 12-2 at Mount Si High School. The loss dropped the Islanders to 2-4 in the KingCo standings and 6-5 overall. Camryn Steiner went 3-3 with an RBI for Mercer Island, while Mount Si’s Britney Stevens went 3-3, scoring a run and batting in another. Next for Mercer Island fastpitch will be a matchup with Bellevue at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday at Bellevue High School.

Mercer Island soccer ties for KingCo first place

Mercer Island soccer earned a conference win over Lake Washington Monday, beating the Kangs 2-1 at Lake Washington High School. With the win, the Islanders improved its KingCo record to 5-1-2, tying them for first place with Liberty and Mount Si. Daniel Sims struck in the game’s opening minutes to put the Islanders on the board, and Daniel Espeleta scored in the 21st minute to give the Islanders a 2-0 first-half lead. Alexander Knox scored in the 67th minute to provide Lake Washington’s lone goal. Mercer Island will take on Sammamish at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 16 at Mercer Island High School.
