Clarke & Clarke Arts & Artifacts, c.michele and Suzanne Zahr are the participating galleries in July’s art walk on Mercer Island, to be held from 4:30-7:30 p.m. Thursday.

The art and wine events, started by Zahr in May, are held on the first Thursday of each month. Zahr’s SZ gallery featured Danish artists Gitte Peters and MUGGI in May and Scott Simmonds in June, working with The Islander restaurant for wine and food pairings.

SZ also hosted an impromptu trunk-show of Mary Herzog’s Paper Beadery jewelry last month.

The gallery will feature select work by Paul Laws and Ash & Ames jewelry by Jennie King.

Clarke & Clarke will have “bubbly and bonbons (and possibly a Roberto’s Pizza sample!),” according to a press release. The gallery will be open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday with libations and treats served from 5-8 p.m.

The art opening will feature selected works of Northwest artists from the modernist school of the 1960s-70s, along with Japanese Sumi painting and prints from the 19th century. The antiques selection will focus on Asian and Southeast Asian ceramics and pottery, and the jewelry will be a contemporary collection from “INDE,” made by hand by craftswomen in New Delhi, led by Anupama Sukh Lalvani, a trained architect.

Zahr is a Mercer Island resident who recently opened a gallery and design/build studio next to The Islander, in the Aviara building on 76th Avenue Southeast. She said one of her goals was to work with other businesses to bring people together through these types of events.

“What I’m loving most about our First Thursday tradition is that each gathering has its own unique personality,” Zahr wrote on her blog, www.suzannezahr.com/blog.

In similar event news, the Mercer Island Chamber of Commerce will host the annual Art UnCorked on Sept. 9 on Sunset Highway and 78th Avenue Southeast.
