Mercer Island resident Dr. Saul Rivkin will be honored on Monday, April 29 by Senator Patty Murray and Dr. Jill Biden, the Second Lady of the United States, at the 18th annual Golden Tennis Shoe Awards lunch.
The event will be held at the Westin in downtown Seattle. Each year Murray presents the Golden Tennis Shoe Awards to honor individuals who have improved their communities through dedication and compassion.
Rivkin is the founder and chairman of the board for the Marsha Rivkin Center for Ovarian Cancer Research. He founded the Center in honor of his late-wife Marsha, who died of ovarian cancer. Rivkin began to lay the foundation for the Center in 1994, looking to help protect other women from the disease. Today the Center is a national leader in ovarian cancer research.
Dr. Biden will be delivering a speech during the lunch, which begins at 11:45 a.m.
The other winners this year include Tyler May of Auburn and Deborah Parker of Tulalip.
