The Mercerwood Shore Club swim team recently won it’s third straight Midlakes A champs title. The team has taken the top spot seven of the last eight years. The 2011 victory was the closest margin, with the Mercer Island Beach Club just 46 points behind the Shore Club.

According to head coach Alice Godfred there was no clear leader going through the meet until the last relays when the Shore Club took the lead thanks to a 13-14 boys free relay win, followed by wins in the 15 and over girls and boys free relays to cement the title.

“I truly did not think it would come out this way this year,” said Godfred. “Our team is the smallest we have had in all nine years I have coached at MSC. It just goes to show that every person on the team is important and contributes. We had so many kids really step up and help it was really fun.”

The team also won the division one duel meet award. The team has gone seven years without losing a duel meet.
