Islanders win out against East Coast competition; Mercer Island FC Select tryouts this month.

MI boys LAX goes 3-0 in New York

Mercer Island boys lacrosse traveled to New York over spring break, taking on three New York state teams April 8-11 and returning with an undefeated record intact.

Debuting black jerseys at West Point’s Michie Stadium April 8, the Islanders defeated Lakeland-Panas 18-7. Bryan Glant led the way with five goals and an assist, while Jack Counihan had three goals and two assists and Johnny Van der Velden posted three goals and an assist.

Scotty Lee and Ezra Tillinger split time in goal, with Lee recording three saves in the first half and Tillinger two saves in the second half.

Two nights later, Mercer Island won a much closer affair with Shenendehowa 14-11. Evan Condon led the Islanders in scoring with five goals, while Glant had four goals and an assist.

Mercer Island wrapped up with a 14-8 win over Shaker April 11, with Condon scoring four goals and Brett Bottomley posting three goals and five assists.

The Islanders (12-0, 5-0) return to in-state action against Eastlake (5-2, 0-2) at 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 22 at Mercer Island High School.

Mercer Island FC Select tryouts this month

Tryouts for Mercer Island FC will be beginning at the end of April. The tentative dates and times for different age groups are:

U10 – April 27 and 29, 6:30-8 p.m. at South Mercer Playfields.

U11, U12 – May 4 and 6, 6:30-8 p.m. at South Mercer Playfields.

U13, U14 – May 11 and 13, 6:30-8 p.m. at South Mercer Playfields.

U15 – May 12 and 14, 6:30-8 p.m. at South Mercer Playfields.

GU16, GU17 – May 18 and 21, 6:30-8 p.m. at South Mercer Playfields.
