Contrasts, abstract expressionism, art rhythms, organic geometry and control anatomy will be the themes of the Mercer Island First Friday Art Walk on Oct. 4.

As fall colors arrive on the scene, so do the creative colorizations, messages and dynamic interpretations by each of the artists featured at the event in venues throughout Town Center. Maps will be available at each location along with sidewalk signage. Shows continue through the month of October.

There will be inspiration, exploration, discovery and conversation with many of the artists and gallery exhibition curators. The walk will take place from 5-8 p.m. except where noted.

Venues and galleries participating this month are:

ALJOYA (5-7 p.m.): “Eight Artists.” Works from Mercer Island Visual Arts League (MIVAL) artists Pardis Bahmani, Keiko Hirai, Carole Whitaker, Wei-i Li, Alexander Bondarenko, Mary McKelvey, Jan Weigle and Renee Zhang.

SUZANNE ZAHR GALLERY: “Control Anatomy.” A solo exhibition of artist Mahmoud Alhaj in collaboration with the Zawyeh Gallery in Ramallah, Palestine.

REALOGICS SOTHEBYS: “Art Rhythms.” Large-scale ink art drawings by local artist and gallerist Julie Hsieh. Paper Heart, a student rock band, will be performing at the opening.

CLARKE & CLARKE ART + ARTIFACTS: “Abstract Expressionism.” New forms of abstract art based on the mid-century period of diverse style and techniques with select works from their newest artist Heather Adamek with Lindsey Carr and Jan Tervonen as well as a sneak preview of “Bamboo,” the Sumi brush works by Katherine St. Martin-Minor in a small-scale format.

BARRELS WINE BAR: “Fine Art.” An installation introducing Jordan Bye as their October /November artist. Bye is an abstract surrealist artist who is influenced by Dali, Van Gogh and Alex Grey. His focus is organic geometry and color with movement. All works in custom frames.

COLDWELL BANKER BAIN: “Fall For Art.” The two artists who are featured in this opening and throughout the month are Scott Hannaman and Ron Matarazzo. Hannaman is a water colorist who creates themed collections on canvas, metal prints and framed prints featuring the Northwest coastal works, “Key West Memories” and “Country Life.” Matarazzo works in encaustics, oil and mixed media with Pacific Northwest nature as his inspiration and passion.

MIVAL: “Contrasts.” A group show of arts and craft featuring Shirley Cherberg, Claudia Zimmerman, Carol Whitaker and Mona Treyball.
