Everett police arrested a 24-year-old Everett man who is suspected of robbing the Island’s Glisten tanning salon last week, along with more than 19 other businesses in the past month. Police arrested the man on Aug. 2 after receiving a tip based on media descriptions of the suspect. Police in over 13 jurisdictions had been searching for the culprit, who mostly targeted tanning salons. He was described as being six feet tall, 200 pounds, white and in his mid-20s.

According to Mercer Island Police Detective Pete Erickson, the man confessed to several robberies, including last week’s Island robbery. The suspect has no criminal history, Erickson added.

On July 29, the Glisten tanning salon in downtown Mercer Island — which was formerly Planet Beach until July 1 — was robbed. According to an employee working at Glisten during the crime, a man entered the salon posing as a customer shortly before 3:30 p.m. on July 29. After asking several questions, he presented a gun to the 16-year-old clerk, a female student of Mercer Island High School, and demanded that she hand over all of the money. She followed the order, after which the man fled the salon on foot. Her colleague, an off-Island female, was in the bathroom at the time. Neither employee was hurt during the incident. Glisten owner Jack McCracken declined to reveal the amount stolen for security reasons.
