MIFC U14 team wins tournament

The Mercer Island FC U14 team won the 2010 Nike Crossfire Select tournament at the end of July in Redmond.

The Mercer Island FC U14 team won the 2010 Nike Crossfire Select tournament at the end of July in Redmond.

The team, which plays in the North Puget Sound league, won the championship game in a shootout.

The Islanders won each of their group stage games, not giving up a single goal during the matches, before facing the Renegades FC team out of Wenatchee. The Islanders earned an early goal from Joelle Antilla, but the Renegades found their way to an equalizing goal in the second half, forcing overtime.

Both Olivia Snell and Adrienne Suhm scored goals during the shootout, while goalkeeper Anna Weiss blocked the Renegades’ shots to give Mercer Island its second Crossfire Cup title.
