Mercer Island Police Department (MIPD) detectives have determined that the report police received on July 22 was not an incident of child luring and the case is now closed.
Officers were called to the 2400 block of 63rd Avenue Southeast at about 8:30 a.m. on July 22 regarding a report where an adult stranger allegedly approached a child and asked the youngster to enter his vehicle, according to a Reporter article. After the child — who was then safe at home — immediately notified their parents, officers were dispatched to the scene.
In an Aug. 8 social media post, MIPD said that after thorough investigation involving interviews with the family, neighbors and review of security camera footage, detectives made their determination on the alleged incident and that no crime occurred.
“The important take-away for Islanders is that we continue to encourage a ‘see something, say something’ philosophy, and we are grateful for the quick cooperation of community members we reached out to during our investigation,” MIPD said.
