Mercer Island Police Department (MIPD) officers arrested a pair of suspects in two separate Island assault cases on Aug. 24.
At 9:45 p.m., MIPD collaborated with the Bellevue police SWAT team and King County Sheriff’s Department crisis negotiators to arrest a male suspect following a domestic violence report at a residence near Ferncroft Drive and East Mercer Way, according to a MIPD news release.
“The suspect was known to own firearms and indicated he would not be cooperative if officers went to his residence to investigate. We were able to quickly and successfully de-escalate what could have been a volatile scenario for the suspect and officers,” MIPD said of the inter-agency assemblage to arrest the suspect without incident.
After receiving a report regarding a knife assault incident in progress earlier in the day, MIPD officers raced to the scene in the 7400 block of SE 27th Street, quickly entered the residence and arrested the suspect. While on scene, Eastside Fire & Rescue responders evaluated the victim’s non-life-threatening injuries.
