MISD begins using key cards for field access

In order to increase safety on the high school campus the Mercer Island School District has installed a gate at the entrance to Islander Stadium. Community members who want to use the stadium and track during the school day and during non-school hours must now apply for an electronic key card to access the field.

In order to increase safety on the high school campus the Mercer Island School District has installed a gate at the entrance to Islander Stadium. Community members who want to use the stadium and track during the school day and during non-school hours must now apply for an electronic key card to access the field.

Applications for the cards are available in the Maintenance, Operations and Transportation building, located at the rear of the PEAK parking lot. The cards cost $5 per person per year and each user will receive information concerning hours, tips and dates when the stadium is open completely for the community without card access, such as during selected school year holidays. The stadium will be open without the need of a card during holiday breaks when school teams are not using the field.

The system allows the district to know who is using the field for safety and security reasons, as well as to help maintain the track and field.
