Mercer Island School District students can look forward to getting out of school early on Wednesday’s in the next school year, rather than Mondays. The district is changing their current Monday early-release schedule to Wednesday beginning in September 2012.
High school students will end their day at 2:05 p.m. next fall, rather than the current 1:30 p.m. early release time. Due to transportation scheduling middle school and elementary students will also have the same early release day, but with the same schedule as currently had on Mondays.
The change will allow for more instructional time at the high school with it’s new seven-period schedule.
In a survey given earlier this spring, over 1,000 parents responded with more than 87 percent supporting or neutral about the change.
