The Mercer Island School Board will meet Wednesday night at 7 p.m. in the Mercer Island School District administrative board room. The meeting was moved from Thursday night to Wednesday because Superintendent Gary Plano will be traveling.
The School Board will be discussing a recent visit to High Tech High in San Diego, made by a board member and several school employees. High Tech High is a charter school which focuses on giving students a personalized, project-based classroom with high standards and is now used as a model around the country.
School will be in session on Friday, March 13. It was originally scheduled as a no-school day, but because of the high number of days missed due to snow earlier in the winter, the district added it back into the calendar to keep the school year from running further into June. The agenda also includes recognizing the Destination Imagination team from West Mercer Elementary, a budget update and enrollment projection and a discussion about “The Big Read,” an event which encourages literacy.
