Becky Mullvain will step into the role of associate principal upon her return to Islander Middle School (IMS) this fall. She replaces Weston Lucas, who has accepted a learning services coordinator role with the Mercer Island School District.
“It is an honor to be appointed the next associate principal at Islander Middle School,” said Mullvain. “I am excited to be returning to Mercer Island. In many ways I feel as if I am coming home. Not only did I begin my career with the Mercer Island School District, but I lived at the north end of the island before I was married.”
Mullvain, who has been an assistant principal at Issaquah Middle School for the last five years, served at IMS in various capacities from 2007-2019, created the IMS eighth-grade Where Everybody Belongs (WEB) Leadership program and was instrumental in bringing the Character Strong social emotional learning curriculum to IMS for the WEB Leader class and later spreading that curriculum to other grades.
“Becky is a role model as a learner, an out-of-the-box thinker, is driven and inspirational and has a depth of knowledge and experience regarding special education, universal design for learning (UDL) and grading for equity (G4E),” said IMS co-principal MaryJo Budzius.
