For three years, the Mercer Island Lion’s club has stored the trailer and equipment they use to sell Christmas trees every year at the old Boys and Girls Club on East Mercer Way.

Now, with just two weeks notice, they have been asked to find a new home for it.

Islander and Lion’s club member, Milt Yanicks said he has appealed to Mayor Bassett and the city for help.

“Our club needs at least a temporary place to keep  the trailer until we can find a place to store it,” he said. “We have been given a two week limit to remove it so that new construction on that property can begin.”

The two week period is coming to an end without our finding a place to store our equipment, he continued.

“Our suggestion to Mayor Bassett is that we be able to use parking space behind City Hall until we can find a home for it by advertising through the Reporter,” said Yanick.

Some years ago the club bought the trailer to store their equipment and to have a space for workers to take care of paperwork and warm up during the sale.

Proceeds from the sale are used to fund youth scholarships and other community needs and activities.

The equipment trailer is 40-feet long plus tongue length and 11 feet at the widest point. The club rents a truck and driver to move the trailer to and from the Farmers lot.
