Selected reports Oct. 29-Nov. 3.

Nov. 3

Vehicle theft and recovery: After a resident’s vehicle was stolen from the parking garage in the 7600 block of Southeast 27th Street, he tracked the vehicle using his own app. Upon locating his vehicle in a neighboring city — occupied and being driven by someone he didn’t know — the victim followed the vehicle and later reported this activity to the local law enforcement agency. Law enforcement ultimately recovered the vehicle. Mercer Island Police Department (MIPD) urges the public to never confront suspects that they believe possess their stolen property or vehicle. “This is extremely dangerous. Always leave this to law enforcement,” MIPD said.

Vehicle prowl: Also in the 7600 block of Southeast 27th Street, someone entered a vehicle and stole various items. According to MIPD: “Residents are reminded to remove everything from parked vehicles that can be attractive to thieves — even empty boxes and bags visible in the trunk or on the floor of the vehicle are reason for thieves to break in.”
