An online auction has been set up to raise money for a Mercer Island teen with cancer. At the same time, the teen’s family has been experiencing financial difficulties. The teen’s stepdad has been working only part-time (as a teacher) in order to stay home to help care for him. The teen’s mother recently lost one of her two part-time jobs. As a result, the family was forced to sell their home at a great loss and moved to a rental home. Fortunately, they found a home on Mercer Island so that their other children could remain in their current schools.
Friends are already helping with meals, housework and yard work to ease stress and allow more quality time as a family. However, the family needs help to pay for medications, medical co-payments, rent and other items.
To participate and find out more about the family, go to the auction Web site at www.32auctions.com/organizations/1172/auctions/1289.
There are more than 100 items listed on the site, many donated by Island businesses. The auction will run through the end of the month. There are a wide variety of gift certificates, items (new or in very good condition) and services available.
If you don’t see anything that suits you, monetary donations are also accepted.
