Fraud: A resident in the 8400 block of Southeast 63rd Street reported receiving a fraudulent call from someone impersonating her son and claimed they were phoning from jail and needed money. When the resident asked for proof of identity, the caller hung up.
Vehicle prowl: A resident in the 2600 block of 84th Avenue Southeast reported that someone broke into their vehicle that was positioned in a city park lot.
Aug. 19
Vehicle prowl: A resident in the 8000 block of Southeast 40th Street reported that someone smashed one of their vehicle windows while it was stationed in a city park lot.
Vehicle prowl: A vehicle window was reported smashed and a purse stolen from inside in the 9800 block of Southeast 42nd Place.
Vehicle prowl: A resident in the 7800 block of North Mercer Way reported that someone broke into their vehicle parked at the Park and Ride.

Burglary: It was reported that someone broke into multiple storage units overnight in the 2700 block of 78th Avenue Southeast.
Fraud: A resident in the 3800 block of West Mercer Way reported receiving a scam call from someone claiming to be a Border Patrol officer and provided the badge numbers and last names of actual Mercer Island Police Department (MIPD) officers in attempts to verify the caller’s validity. “MIPD would like to remind the public that they can always verify they are communicating with a real police officer by hanging up and dialing our non-emergency dispatch number 425-577-5656, and request that the dispatcher put you in touch with an officer,” according to MIPD.
