Parlor Elan’s name comes from the Italian for “moving forward.”
The new beauty salon is located in the Rite Aid building on the South end. Two friends, Dina Good and Anne Messmore, opened the salon in mid-January.
Good named the salon in honor of Messmore, who would have named her daughter, Anastasia, ‘Elan,’ if her husband had approved.
“It is my tribute to her and all the effort she has put in,” Good said. “She is the one out there five days a week, six days a week.”
Good owns the Dina S. Good Salon in Belltown and wanted to expand, to be closer to her clients who live in Bellevue and the Eastside. Messmore, a skin specialist, became a licensed aesthetician after working as a flight attendant. Mercer Island was chosen as a convenient, central location.
The salon offers eyelash extensions, anti-aging facials, chemical peels, spray tanning and permanent makeup. Perhaps the most unique offering is a bee venom facial, which originated in New Zealand and is popular in England — Kate Middleton reportedly had a bee venom facial before her wedding to Prince William. The venom comes from bees that pollinate the melaleuca plant.
“We are the first salon to offer it on the West Coast,” Good said. “It’s like nature’s botox without being toxic.”
Good’s Belltown salon has been in operation for seven years and, she said, was the first salon in Seattle to offer eyelash extensions.
The salon is located at 8431 S.E. 68th Street and can be reached at (206) 922-1230. To learn more, visit www.parlorelan.com.
