Knowing that a picture is equal to a thousand words, no citizen of our Island city needs more than a few sentences to recall (from the Reporter’s many pictures) that the Mercer Island Parks Department knows what to do with our priceless resources of our Luther Burbank waterfront, dock and brick powerplant building. The pictures in the MI Reporter week after week of children sailing and kayaking prove that we can depend on Parks to use what we have to provide our community with the activity that youngsters on an Island should have: the opportunity to learn to sail. The safety education comes with the acquiring of a skill that can be a lifetime activity — an activity using natural resources, leaving no negative effects such as pollution. I commend the Parks Department for using the resources we have to create the lessons and activities offered this summer. I support the MI parks levy.
