JULY 1 BURGLARY: A 54-year-old resident of the 6500 block of 81st Street S.E. reported that someone attempted to burglarize his home. The strike plate and frame of the front door was damaged, although there was no sign of entry into the home. The total damages amounted to $100, according to the police report.

JULY 4

THEFT: A 48-year-old Mercer Island resident reported that his Yamaha watercraft was stolen sometime between 8 a.m., July 3, and noon, July 4. There was no evidence that the boat “floated off,” according to the police report. The total value of the stolen property is $11,000.

DUI: At 1:38 a.m. a car was stopped on Island Crest Way for speeding. The driver was going 47 in a 35 mph zone. The officer smelled alcohol and asked the 19-year-old driver to take a breathalyzer test. The driver, a Mercer Island resident, blew a .009 and passed the test. The 15-year-old passenger, also an Island resident, admitted to drinking more than the driver, but refused the test. The car was left at the scene and the teens were taken to the driver’s home.

JULY 8

DRUGS: At 10:12 p.m. a caller reported suspicious activity in an apartment complex parking lot. An officer responded to the call and found a vehicle with three passengers and a driver. The “smell of fresh marijuana was emanating from the vehicle,” according to the police report. The driver signed a consent form allowing police to search the car. The officer found “a small amount of marijuana, a glass pipe … and a set of brass knuckles.”
