Police Blotter | Bellevue fire trucks damage Islander’s car

An Islander believes his car was damaged by fire trucks responding to a house fire at 3406 97th Ave. S.E.

ACCIDENT: A car parked legally in the Mercer Island Shore Club parking lot was hit by another vehicle that backed into it. The driver of the offending car got out, looked at the damage and left without leaving contact information.

THURSDAY | 24

CAR PROWL: Between 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday and 7:45 a.m. on Thursday, a car was prowled in the 8100 block of Evergreen Lane. The owner of the Nissan Armada reported $700 in cash missing an a Visa credit card. When he called to cancel his credit card, he discovered that several purchases had been made earlier that day. His car was left unlocked overnight and the owner of the car said his neighbor’s mailbox had been broken into the week of Jul. 14.

ACCIDENT: The driver of a car in the Islander Middle School parking lot said she was driving too fast and drove head-on into a set of bushes and a tree on the southeast corner of the parking lot. Behind the vehicle were 70-foot-long yaw marks. More skid marks were observed about 70 feet back.

ANIMAL COMPLAINT: A 30-year-old Island woman was bitten by a dog while jogging.

WARRANT ARREST: Around 11 a.m. on Friday, a Woodinville man was stopped for a traffic infraction. He was found to have an outstanding warrant and was arrested and transported to King County Jail.

THREATS: A 55-year-old Island woman said she received threatening phone messages on her answering machine.

FRAUD: A woman in a white Mazda mini van pulled into the Wells Fargo drive-through line hoping to cash a check for $2,000. The teller noticed that she was acting suspiciously and asked her to enter her pin number to complete the transaction. She took her belongings and drove off. The teller later confirmed that there had been fraudulent activity on that account and that the person at the drive-through was not the account holder.

INFORMATIONAL REPORT: A Bellevue fire engine struck and broke the real estate sign at the entrance to a driveway in the 3400 block of 97th Ave. S.E., while responding to a structure fire in the neighborhood.

ACCIDENT: An Islander believes his car was damaged by fire trucks responding to a house fire at 3406 97th Ave. S.E. He said he parked his car around 8:45 p.m. and was blocked in by Ladder 73 with Eastside Fire and Rescue. Another car pulled in behind him, blocking his car. When he went to get his car on Saturday morning at 8 a.m. he noticed a dent on his rear bumper. The tail light on the rear driver’s side was cracked. Representatives from the Mercer Island Fire Department and Bellevue Fire’s Battalion Chief took photos of the damage. No damage was found to the five involved Bellevue fire engines but the agency is still following up with Eastside Fire and Rescue.

ACCIDENT: A driver collided with a tree around 7:30 a.m. on Sunday, claiming that she had been blinded by the sun. The driver was found in the 7200 block of S.E. 24th St. She claimed she’d lifted her arm to shield herself from the glare and hit the curb,then the tree. The driver declined aid.

WARRANT ARREST: King County Jail advised the Mercer Island Police Department (MIPD) that it was about to release a suspect with an outstanding warrant for operating a motor vehicle with alcohol on board. The suspect was arrested and transported to Issaquah Jail, where he was booked.
