FRAUD: A victim said her Gmail account had been hacked. Her financial advisor was emailed by the hacker, asking that the advisor liquidate funds and direct money to a separate account. The financial advisor began to initiate the request but then called the victim and learned of the fraudulent activity.

FRAUD: A Mercer Island resident claims her Bank of America Visa card had been compromised. The fraudulent card was used to purchase $1,700 worth of gift cards at a Ballard QFC.

MALICIOUS MISCHIEF: At 11:50 p.m. on Friday, a resident’s mailbox stand was yanked out of the ground. Five other mailboxes on the same street had been damaged.

MALICIOUS MISCHIEF: At about 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 23, a woman housesitting in the 1800 block of Mercer Way reported that it sounded like someone was breaking into the residence. She heard a loud crash coming from the front of the home, near the dining area and went to investigate. The residence was also occupied by two of the homeowners’ sons. When the house-sitter realized the noise was not coming from the boys, they armed themselves with a baseball bat and iron and hid in the basement. A suspect was contacted in the area and a police dog traced a trail between the suspect and the house. After being handcuffed and placed in the back of a patrol car, the suspect admitted to earlier in the day backing his car into two Microsoft buildings in Redmond. He claimed that he abandoned his car and came to Mercer Island to seek revenge on Bill Gates. There, he broke a window of the residence in the 1800 block of Mercer Way with a surveillance camera. The suspect was arrested and detained in king county jail.
DUI: Just after 12 a.m. on Saturday, a driver was stopped for speeding at 2200 76th Ave S.E. His slurred speech and the smell of alcohol on his breadth, lead the officer to believe he may have been under the influence. He admitted to drinking. The driver was arrested with BAC readings of 0.113/0.114.
DUI: At 2 a.m. a 39-year-old Seattle man was arrested as he was merging onto West bound I-90 at East Mercer Way. The responding police officer noticed that he had been skirting into the middle-lane. The officer reported that it seemed the driver’s vehicle was cutting up the traffic bumps. When pulled over, he realized their were no tires on the passenger side of the car. The driver said he had been in an accident on I-90 and the wheels on his passenger side had been missing for two days. When asked how much he’d had to drink, he replied: “Not that much, a couple.” He was arrested for DUI.
WARRANT ARREST: Just after 1 p.m. an officer was dispatched to arrest a suspect with a Mercer Island warrant at the Lake Washington Boulevard Denny’s off of the 44th Street exit on I-405. The suspect was in route to Issaquah jail when he began to show signs of a drug overdose. The officer checked his vital signs and the suspect was transferred to Medic One in the Issaquah jail parking lot. He was later admitted to the Issaquah Swedish Hospital.
FRAUD: A Mercer Island woman reported that a Verizon cellphone account had been fraudulently opened in her name, sometime in the last three weeks. Verizon accepted the fraud statement but would not reveal further information without a subpoena.
