Mercer Island police officers discovered two deceased individuals in their 80s within their home on the morning of Nov. 14.

According to a Mercer Island Police Department (MIPD) press release, a discharged firearm was located at the residence after police and fire personnel responded to the scene at about 9:55 a.m. for a reported welfare check in the 5500 block of West Mercer Way.

“The King County Medical Examiner will determine the cause and manner of death. There are no outstanding threats to the public,” police said, adding that MIPD is investigating the case and will provide an update when more information is available.
