Police receive numerous fireworks complaints despite city ban | Mercer Island police blotter

Fireworks: The police department received numerous complaints from across the Island of fireworks being discharged despite the city ban. According to the city, police responded to 21 violation complaints, and those residents contacted by officers were all compliant of the warnings. The fire department reported the ban prevented any major fires from occurring on the Island, and helped keep department resources available for other critical emergencies and services.

July 2

Boating: The marine patrol unit fielded complaints regarding boating-safety violations on Lake Washington.

Hit-and-run: A hit-and-run in the 7800 block of Southeast 28th Street was captured on camera footage and suspect information was provided.

Fraud: A resident in the 9700 block of Southeast 41st Street was the victim of a fraudulent unemployment claim.

Kitten found: A lost kitten was found in the 8800 block of Southeast 59th Street, photographed and the information was posted on social media.

June 30

Noise annoys: A complaint was filed regarding loud music being blasted from vehicles in the 7200 block of Southeast 22nd Street.

Fraud: A resident in the 5000 block of East Mercer Way fell victim to a gift-card scam.

June 29

Marina fire: The marine patrol unit assisted with a marina fire on Lake Washington.

Theft: A resident in the 7600 block of Southeast 22nd Street allegedly had their vehicle stolen by someone they knew.

Theft: A resident in the 2900 block of 80th Avenue Southeast had a license plate stolen from their vehicle.

June 28

Assault: A victim reported sustaining a minor injury following a physical altercation in the 7700 block of Southeast 58th Street.

Hit-and-run: A victim of a hit-and-run in the 3400 block of 77th Place Southeast reported vehicle damage.
