Arrests
A Burlington man was arrested for driving with a suspended license on Feb. 23. The man was pulled over in the 2400 block of 76th Avenue S.E. when a computer check revealed the misdemeanor. The car’s driver identified himself as the owner of the vehicle. He was arrested and booked into the Issaquah Jail.
A Seattle man was arrested in Southcenter and transported to the Mercer Island Police Department with a $2,000 misdemeanor warrant for his arrest on Feb. 23. The misdemeanor was for driving with a suspended license and failure to comply with police.
An Island woman was arrested for driving with no insurance and an expired vehicle registration on Feb. 25. According to the police report, her registration was two months expired. She was processed and released.
While investigating a shoplifting report at a store in the 2700 block of 77th Avenue S.E., police contacted an associate with a warrant for his arrest. The warrant was for dangerous drugs. He also had a Department of Corrections Escape from Community Custody warrant to his name. The man, a Seattle resident, was arrested and booked into King County Jail.
Police pulled over a Seattle man for driving with expired tabs on March 3. The man was pulled over in the 7100 block of S.E. 24th Street. He also had no proof of liability insurance. He was arrested and transported to the MIPD for court arraignment.
Damaged property
A man living in the 4500 block of Ferncroft Road reported that somebody drove through and damaged five trees on the perimeter of his property on March 1. According to the police report, the man suspects that a large truck did the damage. He does not know when the incident occurred.
Accidents
A large moving truck clipped some low power lines running east-west across 92nd Avenue S.E. on Feb. 26. The Qwest and Comcast lines were damaged. Homeowners near the lines were not home. No injuries were reported.
A fender-bender accident occurred in the 4500 block of Forest Avenue on Feb. 28. According to the incident report, a man driving a worker truck stated that he was backing out of a blind driveway and struck a second car heading southbound on Forest Avenue. The woman in the second car corroborated this report. Neither driver said that they saw the other coming. No injuries were reported and little damage was caused to either vehicle.
Fraud
A Bank of America employee caught a subject trying to pass a fraudulent check at the South-end branch on March 3. The subject was refused and the check was kept by the clerk. The subject then left the store.
Theft
An employee of Albertson’s reported that a Seattle transient stole cooking oil from the store on March 2. According to the police report, the employee saw the man put the cooking oil into his backpack and leave the store without paying. Police contacted the suspect and discovered that he had also stolen various food items, which he hid in his clothes. The suspect was arrested, processed and placed into Issaquah Jail.
A man living in the 8500 block of 78th Avenue S.E. reported a burglary at his residence on Feb. 27. According to the police report, an unknown male entered the Islander’s unlocked garage and stole a golf bag filled with clubs. The thief also stole golf tees, a towel, ski cap, ball markers and sets of golf balls.
A woman living in the 9000 block of Shorewood Drive reported that somebody stole some furniture from her storage unit on March 2. According to the police report, the thief slipped the lock to enter the unit. A mahogany ‘50s style table was taken.
An Island man reported that beer was stolen from his unsecured garage in the 8600 block of 76th Place S.E. on March 2. According to the police report, a case of 12 oz Coronas and three bottles of Heineken beer were stolen. The total value is approximately $15.
The owner of Puppy Bubbles reported that her sandwich board was stolen from the 2400 block of 76th Avenue S.E. on Feb. 25. According to the reporting party, this is the second time that the board has been stolen.
A man working in the 7400 block of North Mercer Way stated that one of his employees stole a chop saw and 32’ extension ladder from his residence on Feb. 24. The suspect is a 32-year-old white male from Auburn.
An Island man reported that a woman stole his cell phone while shopping at the North end QFC on Feb. 24. According to the police report, witnesses stated that they saw the woman grab the man’s phone and leave the store with it. The woman was arrested, searched and placed in the back of a patrol car. The victim then became “very uncooperative” and so the female was released.
Found property
A Statefarm Insurance employee found a used BMX bike near the office on March 3. He turned the bike, a Mongoose model with blue lettering, into police. No serial number was on the bike.
An Islander living in the 9611 block of S.E. 36th street discovered ammunition in his or her grandmother’s garage while cleaning it out on March 3. The subject turned the four 22c clips in for destruction.
An Island man turned in a Washington state driver’s license and Bank of America debit card while walking in the 2200 block of 72nd Avenue S.E. on Feb. 20. Attempts were made to contact the owner but were unsuccessful. The items have been placed into found property.
