Pedestrian hit

An 80-year-old Mercer Island man driving east on S.E. 27th Street hit a 49-year-old Mercer Island woman at the intersection of 27th and 77th Avenue S.E. just before noon on Jan. 22, according to a police report. The man had stopped at the stop sign at 77th, and the pedestrian was crossing in a marked crosswalk. As the woman began to cross in front of the car, it began pulling forward. She said she tried jumping back out of the way but slipped, and the car drove over her foot and leg. The man told police he did not see the woman; witnesses said the woman was clearly visible and holding an umbrella at the time of the accident. She sustained foot and leg injuries.

Assault

A man who lives in the 3000 block of 68th Avenue S.E. reported Jan. 28 that his girlfriend scratched and kicked him after he asked her to leave. The suspect told police that he spilled beer on her head and up her nose, and later said she hit him in self defense. She was arrested for investigation of assault and resisting arrest.

Student suspended

Staff members from an off-Island private school notified police Jan. 26 that a student made threatening remarks stating that he was going to get a gun and kill everyone. The boy was suspended from Mercer Island High School, which he also attends, and the private school, a police report said.

Grounds gone

Someone stole a bag of used coffee grounds from a locked silver 1999 Honda CRV that was parked in the 2000 block of 82nd Ave. S.E., the victim told police Jan. 31.

Thefts from cars

A man called police Jan. 31 to report that someone took items from three vehicles parked in his driveway in the 2400 block of West Mercer Way. Stolen were two parking permits for SeaTac Airport, a briefcase with miscellaneous contents and $220 cash, a report said.

A number of hand tools were stolen from a locked, black 1986 Jeep truck that was parked in the 3200 block of 80th Avenue S.E., a man told police Jan. 27. Loss was estimated at $1,000.

Someone stole a set of golf clubs and a box of road safety items from a locked, silver 2002 Mitsubishi Monterey that was parked in the 3000 block of 81st Place S.E., according to a police report taken Jan. 27. Loss was estimated at $1,325; damage was estimated at $150.

Mail theft

A resident of the 8000 block of S.E. 65th Street told police Jan. 27 that mail was stolen from her mailbox, possibly including a check, bank statements and medication.

Packages pilfered

Someone stole two boxes that had been delivered by UPS to a home in the 2000 block of 82nd Avenue S.E., a woman told police Jan. 25. Loss was estimated at $420.
