Pellet gun found

A resident of the 4700 block of 89th Avenue S.E. called police on Feb. 7 to report that her children found a handgun while playing in their backyard. Police responded and found a $10 pellet gun near a tree.

Beer runs

Two shoplifting incidents were reported at the south-end QFC on Feb. 10 and 13. Each incident occurred late at night and involved what appeared to be juveniles and beer.

Theft

A victim who lives in the 8300 block of S.E. 34th Street came home on Feb. 11 and discovered his home had been burglarized. The backdoor of the home was left unlocked. A laptop computer was taken.

Residents of a home in the 5600 block of East Mercer Way called police to report mail theft. Two checks were taken from the mailbox and “washed,” altered and cashed.

On Feb. 11, a resident in the 4600 block of 88th Ave. S.E. reported that someone stole more than $1,000 worth of construction tools from his van parked in front of his residence. A power cord caught in a door prevented the vehicle from locking.

Overdose

Police were summoned to a house in the 7800 block of S.E. 24th Street on the evening of Feb. 9, where a 46-year-old man had apparently overdosed on prescription drugs. Family members said the man sometimes trades his prescription medications with friends. The subject was transported to a hospital.

Car troubles

Overnight on Feb. 8, someone entered a garage through an unlocked side door in the 2200 block of 66th Ave. S.E. The thief opened the trunk of the unlocked car, removed the jack and proceeded to steal the two front tires and rims from the vehicle. The victim said he does not have teen-aged children at home and does not know who did it, a report said.

Someone entered two unlocked vehicles parked in a driveway in the 6500 block of S.E. 28th Street overnight on Feb. 9. A CD player in each car was carefully removed without damaging the car dash, police said.

A resident called to report a vehicle illegally parked for more than 72 hours in the 7400 block of S.E. 22nd Street. The 1973 GMC pick-up truck is registered to a Mercer Island man, but police were unable to contact him. The police report described the vehicle as a “beater truck, bed full of debris.” The truck was impounded.

Bad guys

Police located two men in the Albertsons parking lot during the afternoon of Feb. 9. One of the men was found to have an outstanding felony warrant for escape and burglary. He was arrested and booked into the King County Jail.

Police stopped a car without brakelights registered to a Tacoma woman at 10:30 p.m., Feb. 8 in the 7600 block of North Mercer Way. The driver was arrested for outstanding warrants. The two passengers were arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia.
