Home burglarized
A man told police Feb. 15 that someone broke into his home in the 7600 block of S.E. 22nd Street and stole two TV sets, one DVD player and one computer printer. The house had been ransacked and the victim was unsure whether other items were missing. Loss and damage were estimated at $7,650.
Checks forged
A woman told police Feb. 14 that her mother’s caregiver had forged about 17 of her mother’s checks, taking a total of about $10,000, according to a police report.
Theft from car
Someone broke a window on a red 1978 Porsche that had been parked in the 8400 block of S.E. 72nd Place, and stole a Canon Powershot digital camera. The molding around the stereo was also damaged in an unsuccessful attempt to remove the stereo, the victim reported. Loss was estimated at $400; damage was estimated at $250.
Fraud
A 44-year-old man reported Feb. 15 that someone stole mail from his mailbox in the 7400 block of North Mercer Way, then tried to change his personal information over the Internet and charged $200 worth of items to a credit card.
Someone obtained a man’s business name and Social Security number, used them to open a credit account with Bank One and then racked up $13,000 in charges, according to a report filed Feb. 15.
BMW rolled
A 41-year-old Mercer Island man told police that he was driving north in the 4700 block of East Mercer Way on the evening of Feb. 14 when one of his tires caught part of the shoulder and lost traction. The 1999 BMW went off the road and rolled down a steep embankment, coming to a rest upside down on a private driveway. No injuries were reported.
Malicious mischief
Someone drove a vehicle onto the front lawn at Yeshiva High School in the 5000 block of 90th Avenue S.E. and damaged the grass, according to a report filed Feb. 14.
Lost and found
An Island man turned in a bicycle that he found on the bike trail near Island Crest Way and North Mercer Way Feb. 15.
