Pride in the Park on tap for Aug. 24/ Community briefs

Mercer Island’s Pride in the Park community celebration will occur from 2-5 p.m. on Aug. 24 at Mercerdale Park.

The originally scheduled June 15 event was postponed after high winds, thunder and lightning were forecasted to occur during the outdoor event.

PRIDE+ and the city of Mercer Island will present the free, fun, welcoming, family-friendly event.

The all-ages event will feature a unicorn race, RuPAWS puppy parade and costume contest, yard games, face painting, a food truck, ice cream truck, live music by a 1980s cover band, 88.9 KMIH The Bridge and several community partners will have booths to share information and resources.

Blood donation drive set for Aug. 26

Bloodworks Northwest will hold a blood donation drive from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Aug. 26 at the Mercer Island Community and Event Center.

All donations will go to local patients in local hospitals. Photo identification and appointments are required; no one under age 16 will be permitted on site. To book a one-hour appointment, visit bloodworksNW.org/GiveBlood.

Bloodworks Northwest has partnered with the city of Mercer Island and the Mercer Island Chamber of Commerce for the drive.
