Today through Thursday, residents whose garbage and recycling services have been impacted by delays due to inclement weather can drop off items at a temporary collection site at Homestead Park, 8100 SE 40th St.
Recology and the city of Mercer Island have partnered to open the site during the hours of 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Hours of operation are subject to change due to weather conditions.
Waste must be dropped at the specified marked drop-off locations for garbage and recycling.
Contactless drop-offs are required for the safety of the community and staff, and masks are required while on site and during drop-offs.
Residents are asked to bag all their garbage and to contain their recycling in a cardboard box, paper bag or clear plastic bag. Accepted recyclables are hard plastics, cardboard, metal, glass and paper. Packaging and polystyrene foam, shiny wrapping paper and film plastic should be placed in the garbage.
They will not be accepting food and yard waste, including holiday trees; bulky items like furniture and appliances; hazardous waste like oils and solvents; and special wastes like batteries and light bulbs.
