Until June 5, law enforcement agencies in King, Snohomish and Pierce counties will patrol roads and highways during nighttime hours to check for unbuckled or improperly buckled drivers and passengers, according to the Washington Traffic Safety Commission.
Failure to use a seat belt can draw a $124 ticket.
And it is not just on the Island or I-90.
King County agencies involved in the seat belt patrols include police departments in Bellevue, Federal Way, Issaquah, Kent, Kirkland, Maple Valley, Mercer Island, Newcastle, North Bend, Pacific, Redmond, Renton, SeaTac, Seattle, Snoqualmie and Tukwila. The state patrol will also be participating in the extra patrols, with the support of the King County Target Zero Task Force.
