Resident suffers $10K loss in phone scam | Mercer Island police blotter

Aug. 4

Theft: A resident in the 3200 block of 80th Avenue Southeast had a package accidentally mailed to their old address and accused the current resident of taking the item.

Vehicle theft: While a resident in the 2400 block of 76th Avenue Southeast slept after leaving her apartment door open for overnight cooling, someone entered her home, found her car keys and stole the vehicle. The vehicle was later recovered elsewhere on the Island.

Aug. 3

Theft: Someone quickly swiped a cell phone that was left out in public in the 7600 block of East Mercer Way. No suspect was spotted.

DUI: An officer arrested a teenager for suspicion of driving under the influence after crashing his vehicle in the 7000 block of 93rd Avenue Southeast. The driver was uninjured.

July 31

Theft: A resident in the 2700 block of 60th Avenue Southeast believes that someone stole a ballot from their mailbox.

Fraud: A resident in the 2700 block of 78th Avenue Southeast suffered a $10,000 loss from a phone scam.

July 30

Theft: A shoplifting was reported at a business in the 2700 block of 77th Avenue Southeast.

Malicious mischief: Small graffiti was spotted on the roadway in the 4300 block of 89th Avenue Southeast.
