Rotary club honors Prock and Fang

Mercer Island High School (MIHS) students Sophie Prock and Gillian Fang have garnered Rotary Islanders of the Month awards for October.

The MIHS Spanish department recommended that Prock receive the award for her diligent and positive attitude in class and her passion for community outreach. The volleyball captain excels academically by taking honors English and AP classes, volunteers on weekends with the National Charity League, and shows appreciation for cultural diversity as demonstrated in her Dia de los Muertos programming on KMIH 88.9 The Bridge.

Fang received an award nomination from the MIHS Chinese department, which noted that she has consistently been one of the most responsible and hard-working students in classes. She serves as the vice president of philanthropy for the National Charity League and the president of the school’s Cooking Club, and volunteers for Community Loaves by baking and donating nutritious bread to Hopelink Bellevue to nourish homeless, low-income families with food insecurity.
