The Mercer Island Rotary Club recently named Mercer Island High School seniors Meghan Frisch and Gordon Zhang its Islanders of the Month for February.
Frisch is a member of the MIHS band program, participating in wind ensemble, percussion ensemble, marching band and drumline. She plays tennis and is president of the international club at the school.
Outside of school, she is a volunteer with the Mercer Island Sister City Foundation as well as with the Mercer Island Preschool Foundation. She enjoys hiking, skiing and rock climbing. The daughter of Michele and Cameron Frisch, she hopes to attend the University of Washington and possibly study either architecture or business management.
At MIHS, Zhang is president of the science club, captain of the debate club and a section leader with the school band. Outside of school, Zhang does individual and group tutoring in Seattle. During the summer, he volunteers doing trail work with the Washington Trails Association.
His hobbies include building computers, fixing bikes and cars and studying music. The son of Tracy and Ming Zhang, he plans to study either neuroscience, philosophy, religion or teaching after high school.
