Rotary Islanders for April

Mercer Island High School seniors Taylor Seidel and Martina Unutzer have been named the Rotary Islanders of April. Seidel, the son of Bob and Jill Seidel, is the co-editor in chief of the MIHS literary magazine, Pegasus, and the photography editor of the high school newspaper, The Islander. He is also a four-year member of the varsity swim team, three-year state finalist, National Honors Society president, Bridges group leader and Senior Service Club member. In the community he volunteers with the Atlantic Street Center and VOICE program, in addition to participating with the Mercer Island Farmers Market Steering Committee. He swims with the Bellevue Club Swim Team and Mercerwood Shore Club Swim Team, and is a U.S. Swimming Academic All-American. He plans to attend Columbia University.

Unutzer, who is a National Honor Society member, runs with the cross country team and tutors elementary students through MIHS Kids Corps Tutoring Club. She volunteers for the teen department in the Mercer Island library, where she is a Teen Advisory Board member, and on the children’s Book Buddies summer program. In her spare time, she enjoys hiking, cross country skiing, kayaking and playing piano. She intends to study science and math at the University of Washington.
