Peyton Bell and Marnie Hogue, Mercer Island High School seniors, have been named the “Islanders of the Month” for March by the Rotary Club of Mercer Island.

Bell is the senior class secretary at MIHS, where he is also the captain of the football team and a member of the MISD Title IX Steering Committee, Scrabble Club, Best Friends Club, an actor in the spring play, a participant in Mock Trial and a Natural Helper. Bell co-founded the Interfaith Voices of Youth (IVY) and is a member of the East Shore Unitarian Church youth group, in addition to the Youth Theatre Northwest Cabarets and Heifer International’s Hunger Banquet Planning Committee. He was also a ballet performer in Island Youth Ballet’s production of the “Nutcracker.” Next fall, he plans to attend Columbia University in New York, N.Y. He is the son of Scott and Becky Bell, of Mercer Island.

Hogue is a staff writer for The Islander newspaper at MIHS, the vice president of the Senior Service Club, a National Honor Society member and a National Merit Commended Scholar. She lettered as a junior and senior in cross country, earning the “Most Improved” award, and was an alternate on the girls team when it won the 2008 state cross country championship. In addition to running track, Hogue leads the “Random Acts of Kindness” program at Island Park Elementary, plays piano at Covenant Shores, teaches piano lessons and volunteers with the Atlantic Street Center Tennis Clinic for underprivileged youth. During the past two years, she has also been involved with the Mercer Island Sister City Exchange Program. She is employed as an art model at Gage Academy of Art in Seattle and was an intern at a Seattle architects office. After attending a four-year college, she plans to pursue a career as an architect or in communications. She is the daughter of Herb and Christie Hogue, of Mercer Island. Both Bell and Hogue are high school Bridges leaders.
