The Mercer Island Rotary Club named Jonathan Costa and Kayleigh Dobson its Islanders of the Month for May.
Costa is a member of National Honor Society, involved with the MIHS Ham Radio Club and participated in cross country. Outside of school, he has led and trained rescue groups for King County Search and Rescue and was a student leader for Mercer Island Presbyterian Church. The son of Susan and Donald Costa, he enjoys mountain climbing, sailing and skiing and plans to study computer science at the University of Oregon next year.
Dobson is a BRIDGES leader, National Honor Society member and avid horseback rider. She has worked as head counselor for Red Gate Farm Day Camp, teaching youth how to ride and care for horses. She also works weekly as a trainer’s teaching assistant at Red Gate Farm. Dobson volunteers at Little Bit Therapeutic Riding Center helping riders with physical disabilities learn how to ride horses. As a freshman, she earned the Girl Scouts Silver Award for her service project redecorating the viewing room at Little Bit. The daughter of Kristen Russell and Dominic Dobson, she plans to study engineering and math at Santa Clara University and ride for the school’s equestrian team.
