School district creating policy when considering naming facilities

Following the request of the Mercer Island School District School Board, the district will be creating a policy to be used when considering naming facilities, according to school district Superintendent Fred Rundle.

In a letter to the school district community — including friends, families, alumni and students — on Oct. 1, Rundle noted that copious districts and other agencies utilize policies to assist when deciding whether and how to name a new facility, name an existing facility/portion of a facility, or rename a facility/portion of a facility.

Interested people with either a previous or current connection to Mercer Island are invited to apply to be a member of the district’s Facility Naming Policy Committee by completing a brief survey at https://tinyurl.com/4tr8rhbh. The survey will close on Oct. 18.
