Jordan Morris, Seattle Sounders FC rookie forward and former Mercer Island High School soccer standout, was named the Major League Soccer 2016 Rookie of the Year Thursday.
In 32 games with the Sounders this season, Morris scored 12 goals and recorded four assists.
“It’s a huge honor and it was one of my goals going into the year,” Morris said of the award in an interview posted by the Seattle Sounders FC on Twitter.
With the 2016 Rookie of the Year award, the 22-year-old Morris adds another trophy to his already decorated soccer career.
As a junior at Stanford, Morris led the Cardinal men’s soccer team to the program’s first NCAA championship in December 2015. Morris was awarded the 2015 MAC Hermann Trophy, which is given to the collegiate soccer player of the year.
In November 2014, Morris made his debut in international competition with the U.S. Men’s National Team. Five months later, Morris got his first start with the national team and scored in a 2-0 U.S. victory over Mexico.
