Sen.-Elect Lisa Wellman, D-Mercer Island, announced her appointment to two Senate committees as well as her selection as caucus vice chair of the Senate Democratic Caucus.
Wellman, a former teacher and businesswoman, will serve as the assistant ranking member on the Agriculture, Water, Trade and Economic Development Committee and also serve on the Energy, Environment and Telecommunications Committee. Wellman will also serve on the board of Thrive by Five, an organization advancing high quality early learning throughout Washington state.
“Washington state boasts one of the strongest economies in the country but not every Washingtonian is sharing in that prosperity,” Wellman said. “We must build a bridge and break down the barriers between our urban and rural centers so that every family has an opportunity to succeed.”
Before her election to the senate, Wellman served for six years on the Washington Community Economic Revitalization Board and is currently serving on the Public Works Board and Partners for Rural Washington.
