Mercer Island residents and brothers Daniel and Matt Shields both play lacrosse for Mount Olive College in North Carolina and are leading the team and nation in points.
Junior Daniel Shields is currently No. 2 in the country in points per game, scoring an average of 5.45, while earning an average of three assists a game. He also ranks 23rd in goals per game with 2.45 and 47th in shot percentage at .509.
Younger brother Matt, a freshman, is 12th in points per game with 4.18, and seventh in assists at two per match. He scores an average of 2.18 goals per game.
The team is 7-5 so far this season and will begin the conference tournament in mid-April. The team is in fourth place in the Conference Carolinas.
