SJCC invites community to Hanukkah events

Mercer Island’s Stroum Jewish Community Center (SJCC) invites the community to join in celebrating the Festival of Lights with the following Hanukkah events:

* The SJCC is bringing Hanukkah to neighborhoods across the greater Seattle area with crafts pop-up events. Hands on Hanukkah events will take place at the Mercer Island Harvest Market (11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Nov. 24; 7700 SE 32nd St.); Redmond Lights (4:30-8 p.m. on Dec. 7; 16101 NE Redmond Way); and Bellevue Botanical Garden (4-7 p.m. on Dec. 14; 12001 Main St.).

* Endless Opportunities Hanukkah Celebration: From 12:30-2:30 p.m. on Dec. 5, the SJCC and Jewish Family Service of Seattle invite adults 60+ to enjoy food, socializing and dancing with live music by Duet Marianna at the Temple B’nai Torah (15727 NE 4th St., Bellevue).

* Hanukkah Cookie Decorating: From 3-4:30 p.m. on Dec. 8 at the SJCC (3801 E. Mercer Way).

* Hanukkah Concert + Celebration: From 3-5:30 p.m. on Dec. 15 at the SJCC, attendees can join the festive family ruach (spirit) and sing along with acclaimed Jewish singer-songwriter Dan Nichols and his band Eighteen. Known for Jewish communal anthems like “Chazak” and “Sweet As Honey” throughout North America, the band’s goal is to realize the potential of music to make powerful connections with Jewish youth and beyond.

* Family Hanukkah Celebration: From 5:30-7:30 p.m. on Dec. 20 at the SJCC, the event will feature food and drinks, including a pizza and salad dinner, a complimentary glass of wine for each adult, and craft Hanukkah cocktails for purchase. The evening’s entertainment will feature Shabbat blessings and songs; a glow stick dance party room; and latkes, sufganiyot, dreidel and candle making stations. There will also be a community menorah lighting plus special gifts for the little ones.
